  1. Learners must complete a test in 10 minutes.
  2.  Learners are allowed to use a dictionary.
  3.  Any learner from a government school or private school is allowed to take part.
  4.  Learners can complete a test from 07:00 to 15:00 on the scheduled dates. It is recommended that learners complete the test from 07:30 to 07:50.
  5.  Learners can prepare for a test by doing the Practice exercises and studying the list of Synonyms/antonyms.
  6.  Learners are not allowed to receive help from another person (e. g. parent, teacher, friend).
  7.  The result will be final.
  8.  There will be a single winner for the different grades. Should two (or more) learners have the same result, they will have to answer 30 more questions to determine a single winner. In other words, there will be a tie-breaker. For practical purposes all learners who get 80% or more for a test, must complete a tie-breaker immediately upon completion of the test. The tie-breaker is a test that will consist of 30 questions. Participants must complete the tie-breaker in less than 3 minutes.
  9.  If the scores of two (or more) learners are equal in the tiebreaker, the winner will be the learner who completed the tiebreaker in the shortest time.
  10.  There are no entrance fees.
  11.  The winner will have to provide proof of his/her age and current grade

General information

Participants can complete the test between 07:00 and 15:00 on the scheduled dates.

10 minutes

50 multiple choice questions
(10 sections – synonyms, antonyms, definitions, analogies, et cetera)

Any learner from any government school or private school is welcome to take the test.

Learners can prepare for at least 30 of the 50 questions by doing the Practice exercises on the VOCABAFRICA website and by studying the list of Synonyms/antonyms on the website.

Learners cannot really prepare for the other 20 questions as various dictionaries were used to formulate the questions.

There are various quizzes that learners can do though to improve their vocabulary.

(Many learners enjoy doing the Merriam-Webster 10-question quiz. “How strong is your Vocabulary?”)

Individual Scores

Participants will receive their scores upon completion of the test.

The winners will be announced ten days after the test date.
